Banky W believes NYSC should be optional and explains why

As stated by the famous singer, the National Youth Service project has yet to achieve its full potential since its inception.

Olubankole Wellington, a.k.a. Banky W, a famous singer and politician, has explained why the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) should no longer be mandatory but rather optional in Nigeria.

In an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday, the musician stated that the NYSC scheme has not achieved all it was intended for since its inception.

His words, “I don’t know if there is anybody that will disagree that NYSC probably does not achieve everything it was originally designed for today, so how do we reform it? Don’t cancel it, let’s remove it from the constitution and make it optional, the people who do not need it will go.”

Banky observed that making the program optional would boost serious engagement and provide a decent pay for individuals who were interested.

“Now you can pay those interested more so instead of paying them N30,000 monthly which does nothing for a young person in Nigeria today. We can pay them N60 – N80, 000,” he said.

Banky W is a serious contender in the upcoming elections in 2023.

He joined the PDP and was given a ticket to run in the National Assembly election in Lagos’ Eti-Osa Federal Constituency. Click here for more entertainment.
