It looks like 2023 is going to be off to a flying start with some incredible films and television programmes coming to Netflix, ranging from established titles to brand new Nollywood blockbusters.
This month, the Netflix is releasing 5 African titles, including
‘The Wait’: Directed by Yemi Morafa and Fiyin Gambo, this Nigerian movie focuses on two couples and a job seeker experiencing the trials of infertility. The narrative follows them as they confront their tribulations and ultimately find redemption through perseverance.
Yewande Zaccheaus’s novel ‘God’s Waiting Room’ has been adapted into the nollywood movie featuring Nse Ikpe Etim, Deyemi Okanlawon, Jimmy Odukoya, Ini Dima-Okojie, Chimezie Imo, Aisha Sanni-Shittu, Kate Henshaw, Joke Silva and other actors.
On January 13, ‘Disconnect: The Wedding Planner’ tells the story of one man’s frantic effort to organize a lavish destination wedding for a major client. David ‘Tosh’ Gitonga helms this romantic comedy, which stars Meg Otanwa, Wale Ojo, Tope Tedela, Francis Onwochei, Irene Paul, Ozioma Jesus, Catherine Kamau, Pascal Tokodi and Brenda Wairimu alongside Brian Ogola.
‘Shanty Town’ – January 20 Crafted by Xavier Ighorodje and Chichi Nworah, this six-episode saga chronicles the tale of three Lagos- based hustlers who unite to take on the largest and most powerful criminal organization in the area.
Featuring some of Nigeria’s biggest stars, including Richard Mofe-Damijo, Ini Edo, Chidi Mokeme, Nse ikpe-Etim, Sola Sobowale, Shaffy Bello, Ali Nuhu and Uche Jombo.
‘Kings of Jo’Burg’ – January 27 After the untimely passing of founding father Shona Ferguson, the Masire clan struggle to forge on without Simon ‘Vader’ Masire (portrayed by the late producer) when season two starts.
With no more presence of their beloved family member, they must grapple with a paranormal hex, disloyalty and adversaries while attempting to acclimate to a new leader.
‘All Na Vibes’ – January 27 Set in contemporary Ibadan with a backdrop of a crippling university strike and underlying political tensions, three teens not attending school are compelled to ponder their prospects — and companionship — when the daughter of a politician vanishes.
Directed by Taiwo Egunjobi, the cast includes Jide Kosoko, Tope Tedela, Tolu Osaile, Tega Ethan, and Molawa Davis.
